Configuring PFSense with TP-Link TL-SG108E and TL-AX6600 for Management Network

In this tutorial, we will explore how to configure a management network between PFSense and TP-Link TL-SG108E using the TL-AX6600 as a bridge. This setup allows us to access the switch from PFSense and manage it remotely.

Step 1: Put the TL-AX6600 in Bridge Mode

To start, we need to put the TL-AX6600 in bridge mode. Connect the cable coming from the TL-SG108E to a LAN port on the TL-AX6600, making sure not to use the WAN port.

Step 2: Configure VLAN28 Address Range for MGMT

The first issue we noticed is that you used the VLAN28 address range for MGMT. If this works, we will proceed with the next steps.

Step 3: Ping the Switch from Pfsense

Log in to PFSense and ping the switch at IP address 172.16.0.2. Once confirmed that it's working, we can move on to the next step.

Step 4: Configure Port for Pfsense Connection

In the TL-SG108E, configure the port connected to Pfsense as PVID1 and VLAN1 untagged.

Step 5: Assign IP Address to Switch

Assign an IP address of 172.16.0.2/24 to the switch. We are not creating a VLAN yet; this is just a temporary step to allow us to access the switch from PFSense.

Step 6: Configure Igb2 Interface on Pfsense

In the Interfaces tab, select the Igb2 interface and enable it. Add a static IP address of 172.16.0.1/24 to this interface. This will be the gateway for the management network.
